About Feteer Lounge

Feteer Lounge is an Egyptian restaurant and hookah lounge in Clifton, New Jersey. We opened in 2026 at 1551 Main Ave to make feteer the way it’s made in Egypt.

Mashaltat, a plain flaky feteer, with honey, tahini and molasses

What is feteer?

Feteer (فطير, also spelled fateer) is a traditional Egyptian pastry. The dough is stretched paper-thin by hand, brushed with butter and folded into thin layers, then baked to order until golden and flaky.

Savoryحادق
Basterma, ground beef, sausage, chicken, or cheese and vegetables, with olives, peppers and tomatoes.
Sweetحلو
Plain with honey, molasses or tahini, or filled with custard and topped with pistachio, strawberry or chocolate.

Alongside the feteer there’s macarona béchamel, rice pudding, baklava, Arabic coffee, hibiscus tea and fresh mango juice. See the menu.

The place

Inside, the dining room is bright and Egyptian, with a carved hieroglyph wall and marble tables, and it stays no-smoking. Out back, the terrace is our hookah lounge, open until 2 AM. Come for a meal, or stay late over coffee and hookah.

You may have known this address as Shallal Restaurant. That restaurant has closed; Feteer Lounge is a new, separate business.
